Project Overview
Compass Electrical Solutions was honored to partner with the City of Hazelwood on a critical infrastructure upgrade at their Community Center. This project involved the installation of a 500 kW Blue Star commercial diesel generator, designed to provide full-building backup power and ensure uninterrupted operation during outages.
Project Scope & Highlights
- Installed 500 kW Emergency Generator –
Furnished and installed a 24-hour diesel-fueled Blue Star commercial generator capable of backing up the entire facility.
- Electrical Service Upgrade –
Removed outdated 800-amp 3-phase 480V service and consolidated systems into a new 1200-amp 3-phase 480V service for increased capacity and reliability.
- Circuit Relocation –
Transferred branch and equipment circuits from the 800-amp service to the new 1200-amp service to ensure all critical loads are backed up by the commercial generator.
- Switchgear Rework –
Removed and relocated disconnect switches for seamless integration into the new system.
Powering Public Safety And Community Resilience
With this upgrade, the Hazelwood Community Center is now prepared to continue operations during power outages—supporting city functions, public gatherings, and emergency response efforts without interruption.

In addition to the generator installation, our team consolidated the building's electrical service, creating a more efficient and streamlined power distribution system. Project Scope & Highlights 600kW Blue Star Diesel Generator Installation – Installed a commercial-grade emergency generator to provide dependable backup power for the facility. New 1,000-Amp, 277/480V Three-Phase Service – Upgraded the building's electrical service to support increased capacity and improved efficiency. Extensive Conduit Installation – Installed hundreds of feet of 3-inch and 4-inch conduit, including complex custom bends to navigate the existing facility. New 240V/200A Panel – Added dedicated power distribution for facility operations. 300 kVA Transformer Installation – Installed a new transformer to support the upgraded electrical system. 800-Amp Disconnect Switch – Added new disconnect equipment to improve safety and serviceability. Weekend Power Cutover – Carefully coordinated a facility shutdown over the weekend to transfer power and commission the new generator with minimal operational disruption. Reliable Power.
